Patrol Division and Units

DCSO office during car stopThe Patrol Division is responsible for responding to crimes, public service concerns, preventive patrol and crime suppression. Patrol Division personnel are the first to respond to emergencies or calls within the county. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division is the direct result of our continued partnership and cooperative association between officers and the citizens of our community.

Patrol Division operates with a community-oriented policing philosophy to identify, address and correct problems that involve criminal or suspicious activity.

Patrol personnel participate in a variety of units/special assignments that work to enhance the quality of life in our community and provide security for all in Douglas County.

The uniformed patrol division consists of numerous Deputies assigned to Carson Valley, Topaz and Lake Tahoe portions of Douglas County.


General Patrol Unit functions consist of:

  • Proactive crime prevention

  • Traffic enforcement

  • Law enforcement

  • Criminal investigation

  • Criminal apprehension

  • Maintaining the peace

  • Public service

Specialized Units & Divisions: Arrest and Control, Bike Patrol, Bomb Squad, Coroner, Crisis Negotiation Team, Field Training, Good Neighbors, Honor Guard, K-9 Program, Marine 7 Boat Patrol, Mobile Outreach Safety Team, Motor Unit, Range Staff, Reserve Deputy, School Resource Officer, SWAT and TRIAD (a joint-agency senior citizen program)
