Crisis Negotiation Team

The Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) is a response team comprised of Sergeants and Deputies who contact people involved in an active crisis by minimizing risk to human life through professional dialogue and minimal use of force. These people may be suicidal, barricaded or have hostages. Each CNT member has extensive training in verbal skills to de-escalate crisis situations, peacefully surrender, all while minimizing the risk to life for the person, hostages and law enforcement personnel.

Included on the team is one full-time psychologist who provides mental health observations to the mindset of individual, suggest appropriate dialogue, and understands the person's ability to cope with the situation.

The team continually receives formal training with surrounding law enforcement negotiation teams and agencies such as the FBI in order to possess the latest knowledge of negotiation processes, communication, de-escalation skills and aftercare for individuals involved in crisis situations.
