Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Investigates Students with Edibles

Minden, Nevada- On Thursday March 3rd, a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) School Resource Officer began an investigation at a local Middle School after a 12-year-old student came to the office claiming she felt very strange.

It was determined that the 12-year-old student along with a number of other students had ingested gummy bears that were actually Marijuana edibles which contain THC.  THC is the psychoactive drug in marijuana. The students got the marijuana edibles from another student who stole them from her father and brought them to school.

Although this was a severe case, it is fortunate that this was not more severe. Counterfeit prescription pills that contain fentanyl are being smuggled into the country from Mexico and routinely encountered by the DCSO Patrol Division and the local narcotics enforcement units. The counterfeit pills encountered locally are usually blue and have M-30 stamped on them, but they could be made to look like any legitimate prescription or non-prescription pill.  Parents are reminded to warn their children to NEVER ingest anything they get from anyone other than their parents.
