June 2025 Recruitment Day

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Hosts Fast-Track Recruitment Day on June 28
Posted on 06/11/2025

MINDEN, NV — The Fast-Track Recruitment Day for deputy sheriff candidates takes place Saturday, June 28, 2025, led by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO). This recruitment event compresses three months of testing and screening into a single day and is a unique opportunity for candidates to launch their law enforcement career in the Carson Valley, Nevada.

Ideal for both new recruits and laterals, this accelerated one-day process involves:

  •  Physical fitness test (review the pass/fail standards)
  •  Written exam (waived for candidates with law enforcement experience, who will proceed directly to the interview stage)
  •  Oral board interview
  •  Background investigator session

“We realize that the requirements to join our team are complex, so offering tests and screening interviews on the same day is our way of removing obstacles and bringing forth the best candidates,” said Sheriff Dan Coverley. “With the success of our last Fast Track Recruitment Day in mind, we decided to once again invite recruits to this daylong event to complete required testing, meet our leadership, and see first-hand what makes DCSO a great place to serve.”

Interested candidates must first apply to the DCSO by June 23 to attend the recruitment event. After the application review process, the DSCO team provide a confirmation email with further instructions. Lateral officers are encouraged to apply, with the following scales representing hiring salaries for different experience levels:

  •  Deputy Sheriff I: No experience $59,009.60
  •  Lateral Deputy Sheriff I (based on experience, typically jail/prison): $59,009.60 to $80,017.60
  •  Lateral Deputy Sheriff II (based on experience, typically patrol): $62,108.80 to $84,219.20

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is the only law enforcement agency for the county serving the communities of Minden, Gardnerville, Genoa, Topaz Lake, Stateline, and Zephyr Cove. As a proactive enforcement agency, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office offers:

  •  Comprehensive medical benefits, PERS retirement pension and 13 paid holidays
  •  Four-day workweek with modified field training
  •  Relocation reimbursement and education/bilingual pay incentives
  •  Strong community engagement — working special events such as South Lake Tahoe’s annual American Century Celebrity Golf Tournament to Genoa’s Candy Dance
  •  Specialized duty options — including SWAT, K-9, and EOD
  • Pro-law-enforcement community
