Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Seeking Public's Assistance Following Two Attempted Home Invasions
MINDEN, Nev. (Sept. 10, 2026)––Over the Labor Day weekend, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to two home invasion-related calls.
The first incident occurred Saturday morning at approximately 2:00 a.m., when an unknown individual kicked in the front door of a residence. The elderly homeowner did not contact law enforcement until later that morning after discovering the damage and finding the door open. Investigators determined that no entry appears to have been made into the residence, and no property was reported missing.
The second incident occurred Monday morning at approximately 2:25 a.m. In this case, an attempted forced entry was captured on a Ring camera. Video footage shows the suspect jumping and kicking the front door before attempting to force it open by striking it with his shoulder. The suspect then ran into the street, met with another individual, and both fled the area on foot. The primary suspect appears to be a teenage juvenile who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a dark face mask.
“This appears to be another dangerous nationwide social media ‘challenge.’ I would caution anyone who believes this type of behavior is harmless or simply a prank,” said Sheriff Coverley. “Attempting to force entry into someone’s home could easily be mistaken for a burglary or home invasion and may result in a homeowner responding with force to protect themselves and their family.”
