MINDEN, Nev. (June 2, 2026) — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) will increase patrols and impaired-driving enforcement efforts from June 5 to June 21, 2026, as part of Nevada's statewide Joining Forces campaign.
As summer travel and recreational activities increase across the region, DCSO is reminding motorists that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs puts everyone at risk and remains one of the leading causes of preventable traffic fatalities.
The campaign carries special significance in Douglas County. In 2022, Fallon Montanucci lost her life in an alcohol-related crash on U.S. Highway 395. Her loss serves as a reminder of the devastating and lasting impact impaired driving can have on families and communities.
“Impaired driving is a completely preventable choice that can have lifelong consequences,” said Sheriff Dan Coverley. “Our deputies will be actively looking for drivers who put themselves and others at risk by getting behind the wheel while impaired. If you plan to drink, make arrangements for a sober ride home before you leave. One poor decision can change lives forever.”
DCSO encourages residents and visitors to:
- Designate a sober driver before consuming alcohol.
- Use a rideshare service, taxi or public transportation.
- Never allow a friend or family member to drive impaired.
· Report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911.
The Joining Forces campaign is funded through federal highway safety grants administered by the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety. Throughout the enforcement period, deputies will focus on high-visibility patrols in areas with increased traffic activity and a history of impaired-driving incidents.
