Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Invites the Community to Join Aktion’s Fun Walk 2026

MINDEN, Nev. — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO, in partnership with the Kiwanis Aktion Club Carson Valley, is inviting the community to come together for Aktion’s Fun Walk 2026 Monday, June 8, 2026, from 9 to 11 a.m. The annual event brings community members, law enforcement and local supporters together to celebrate and support children and adults with disabilities through an inclusive walk from Heritage Park in Gardnerville to Minden Park. Participants are encouraged to arrive by 8:30 a.m. for check-in and lineup prior to the walk.

“Aktion’s Fun Walk is about bringing people together and showing support for every member of our community,” said Douglas County Sheriff Dan Coverley. “This event highlights kindness and connection, and we’re proud to walk alongside these incredible individuals and families once again.”

Aktion Club is the only service organization for adults with disabilities, providing members opportunities for leadership development, community involvement and meaningful social connections. Sponsored locally by Kiwanis and supported internationally through Kiwanis International, Aktion Clubs help create opportunities for service, confidence and lifelong friendships.

The 2026 walk route will travel from Heritage Park along Highway 395 and Esmeralda Avenue before concluding at Minden Park. The route will be secured with patrol vehicle escorts, MRAP and BearCat support vehicles, and traffic control assistance at Highway 395 to help ensure participant safety.

Community members are encouraged to participate by:

  • Walking in support of individuals with disabilities
  • Sharing the event on social media
  • Inviting friends, family and neighbors to attend
  • Cheering participants along the route

“One of the best parts of this event is seeing our Carson Valley community show up for one another,” Coverley said. “We encourage everyone to come out, take part and help make this another memorable and meaningful morning.”

The event is proudly supported by the Town of Gardnerville and the Town of Minden.
