Motor Unit
Motor Unit personnel are among the first to respond to emergencies within the county due to their ability to navigate through congested traffic and pedestrian/bicycle paths. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Motor Deputies fill the traffic role with specialized training in traffic enforcement and investigations of traffic crashes.
The Motor Unit participates in dignitary protection, parade escorts, funeral escorts, honor guard details and special events such as the Parade of Lights, Carson Valley Days Parade, the Nevada Day Parade, the Special Olympics Torch Run, the Tour de Tahoe, and numerous others.
As a member of the Northern Nevada Regional Motor Unit, Douglas County’s Motor Unit teaches and trains the motorcycle operation in a law enforcement environment to new motor officers in the area. All new motor officers attending the school receive 80 hours of training.
The Motor Unit currently has 4 BMW R 1250 RT-P motorcycles, and is comprised of three specially Certified Motorcycle Training Officer Deputy Sheriffs.
